Dionysian Tree of Life

22" X 35" wood-cut Dionysius is a god of ancient Greece who was 'Thrice-born'. His three births are symbolized in this print by the Bull, Snake and Lion, representing stages of rebirth. The Dionysian rites were inspirational initiations, through the process of death and rebirth. In the print Dionysiius grows like th Tree of Life, bring continually reborn to the dance and song of inspired revelers. Silenus, the initiator, can be seen on the extreme left, holding the cup of the wine of deliverance.
